A new year. A fresh new palette of possibilities!
As most quilter's will admit, turning the calendar page to a new year excites the mind to make goals for oneself. Plans to begin new projects and goals to finish up old ones.
I have goals in place and will share them over the next few weeks. As of right now, I am confident if I keep the schedule I have set for myself, this will be a year of finishes. As with most quilters though, I am easily bored and swayed by the allure of starting something new so I plan to keep myself busy with a variety of projects to hold my interest at all times.
As of right now I hope to work on the following:
- In the evenings I plan to put in a few hours of cross stitching on a stocking for my granddaughter. I have wanted to do this for awhile for all of my grandchildren because I want them to have handmade Christmas stockings from me. There was a wonderful after Christmas Sale at Herrschners. So I bought three kits to work on. No more excuses - I WILL get these done for my grandchildren slowly but surely!
- And last but definitely not least, I want to finish up long stitch hand quilting on my granddaughter's wall quilt for her bedroom:
I look forward to blogging about my quilting journey this year!
Blessings,
Kymber
you left a comment on my blog asking about the Dear Jane quilt and how much fabric is needed. Yes buy at least 10 yards of your background fabric. You use it I would even get 12 yards then if you have any left just use it for another project. Fabric is so expensive now that I would think of Bella solids or Kona Cotton - it cost less and works out well. If you order a bolt you get a discount - check out Hancocks of Paducah or Fat Quarter Shop or Missouri Star Quilting Company. So many odd shapes in this quilt you need it for seam allowances and odd cutting. Do one block at a time and you will get done done. Some do a block a week and other just now and then. It took me years to finish each of mine. I took long breaks from it at times. The one I just took off of the quilting frame I started in 2008!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Karen for your thoughtful reply. I'm heading to the quilt store today to pick out my fabric!
DeleteI started piecing Dear Jane in November and the first 2 rows are completed. I purchased a whole bolt of white Bella solid to be used as the background fabric. This is a LOT of fabric, but this way I know I won't run short of fabric. There were 17 yards of fabric on the bolt. Any fabric left after the quilt is finished will be used in other projects.
ReplyDeleteI'll be watching for updates on your Jane!
Thank you so much Gretchen for taking the time to comment. I will be looking for my fabric today and am so excited to finally get started! Will definitely update my progress as I go along. Have a great day today! Kymber
